Doctors Hospital:
A Message From The CNO

Sandy Hyatt, RN

Chief Nursing Officer

Great things are happening at Doctors Hospital, a community facility located in beautiful Coral Gables. Our RN workforce of over 300 nurses is energized by our new delivery systems, computerized documentation and outstanding patient outcomes. The hospital is rapidly moving toward Magnet designation and has empowered our nursing staff to make decisions that result in an improved patient- and family-centered care environment.

At Doctors Hospital, nurses are valued and respected. This is evidenced by our Press Ganey patient satisfaction scores (over the 90th percentile), NDNQI nurse satisfaction scores (over the 90th percentile), and physician satisfaction with our nurses (93rd percentile) and overall practice environment (96th percentile). Our nurses know that their actions are instrumental in saving lives by providing the best care in a safe environment. In fact, Doctors Hospital’s leadership and nursing staff have been a proactive force in keeping our patients restraint-free for the last two years.

Our commitment to quality nursing care can also be seen in our voluntary participation in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Project (ACS-NSQIP). Together, we have achieved scores in the top 10 percent of the nation in over 85 percent of the Core Measures.

The Doctors Hospital vision of excellence is threaded throughout all of our nursing, medical, surgical and emergency services areas. For example, the Gamma Knife Center is under the direction of a highly regarded surgeon who is uniquely qualified to treat brain tumors, vascular malformations and a number of other disorders affecting the brain and neck.

Our very active Ambulatory Surgery Department is also staffed by internationally known orthopedic surgeons, who partner with our expert orthopedic nurses to care for patients with sports-related and other orthopedic injuries. Indeed, Doctors Hospital’s surgeons, nurses, advanced technology and comprehensive rehabilitation program combine to create one of the most respected orthopedic programs in the United States. It is no coincidence that we are the official Sports Medicine provider for the Miami Heat, Florida Panthers, Florida International University, and Miami-Dade High Schools, as well as the FedEx Orange Bowl.

As part of the Baptist Health South Florida organization, hospital leadership has the opportunity to ensure that all of our nurses become the best that they can be through continuous lifelong learning. The ultimate goal is that every nurse becomes a professional RN with the minimum of a BSN degree and certification in his/her field of expertise. We have also eliminated the use of contract/agency nurses in order to build a team that is fully invested in our future together.

Great becomes better when you work with the best! We are passionate about service excellence, which has been embedded in our culture, and we embrace the opportunity for you to share the successes that we have been able to make together at Doctors Hospital.
